Metix Ltd was founded in 2013 and has grown from a small dorm-room project into one of the top 100 SMEs in the UK. Metix moved into Tontine in August 2016 and just over a year later have more than tripled their team and are moving on to larger premises. We caught up with Kateryna Zakharova, Director at Metix Ltd. to find out more about their growth over the last fourteen months ...

"We are now at a stage where we are focusing on full-scale R&D to produce market-ready products, which required us to start growing the team from 6 to 20 staff. This new stage of product development required not only additional space for personnel but also additional self-contained areas for loud activities, product assembly and additional hot-works capabilities -as the company’s hardware activities move from design to advanced prototyping and manufacturing. Moreover, we needed to certify the company and premises to ISO 13845 standards and to guarantee compliance, it is best our premises are not shared.

As I mentioned, we grew quite significantly during our time in Tontine – from 6 people to 20 full-time. We were very lucky to have been in Tontine during this period of growth, as its team put us in touch with our Glasgow City Council Advisor and provided growth guidance. Through their support, we got introduced to funding opportunities for new staff, like the Glasgow Guarantee programme, which made possible for us to onboard staff which we would otherwise not be able to afford to hire. Other support included various workshops held in Tontine (Google Digital Garage for example) and Growth Advisory Service that provided us with tailored mentorship and workshops where we lack in-house expertise."
